Life As You Know It
Call me a workaholic or call me just fabulous.
Things are beginning to stack up in my life. I am compiling lists of things to do and getting through them quickly. The more efficient I am with getting through it, the better I am on the long haul.
This past weekend I met with the editors of Khmerican.com during the Khmer Student Coalition Conference at UCLA.It was a different experience from all the things I have covered in the past. It might have been because I actually had time to relate with the events going around me. Most of the time, I cover pieces where I can be very objective. What I enjoyed about the conference is the bonding with my Cambodian “family.” Quite admittedly, I have been very involved with the Vietnamese American community during college. KSCC gave me another opportunity to expand my networks and befriend great folks.
I am grateful for getting all these wonderful opportunities despite the emotional roller coasters I have to face in the midst of everything. I am holding up and I apologize for showing a little more of me than you might have wanted to know.
I have about 6-7 months until I will be walking across the stage among my colleagues. We will be the future of America.
For those who are keeping up with the Occupy Wall Street movement, a good chunk of the participants of the movement are college students or graduates looking for jobs. It’s the sad truth that many of my peers will be struggling to find jobs out there. I for one, will be among them. I am a freelance writer and it doesn’t pay well. Nope, it’s sufficient for gas but it’s a hard life. You put your heart and soul into pieces but in the back of your mind, you know it’s not going to be the biggest pay off.
I love journalism and I believe it is essential for marking history. There will be critics out there ready to pounce on every error and essentially make your life a living hell. But, at the end of the day, you have to remember your job is to chronicle history.
That is my life as you know it, balancing 3 different writing opportunities along with school. Let’s hope it works out for the best.
